Above and Beneath
Tobago is internationally recognised as one of the best diving spots in the southeastern Caribbean. The island's aquamarine seas are home to three hundred species of South Atlantic coral and a variety of spectacular multi-coloured tropical fish (Manta Rays are a common sight). Goat Island is popular for drift dives and Little Tobago is where many of the manta ray encounters occur.
To explore the waters further you’ll find a variety of diving courses, ranging from one-day resort courses which start at US$55–65, to five-day PADI open-water certification courses at a cost of US$ 350–375; and advanced open water courses from US$225. Alternatively, you can enjoy one of the many snorkeling, boat cruises and glass bottom boat trips on offer.
If you’re after something a little more energetic, and (usually) above rather than under water, you can rent jetskis or try your hand at kayaking, which costs about US$ 10 an hour at Pigeon Point. Certain parts of the island also cater for the water-skiiers, surfers and body-boarders among you.
